The roles of the Scrum methodology
Learn all about a Scrum team
Today we bring you an article on the roles and responsibilities of the Scrum methodology, since as we explained in previous articles, it is the process that we follow in Possible to develop any of our Software projects.
Do you know what the Scrum methodology is? What are your roles? Here are these concepts in detail.
What is the Scrum methodology?
For those who don’t know what the Scrum methodology is, it’s a method of working as a team from iterations or Sprints. Therefore, it is a methodology that fits into the Agile process. It aims to control and plan projects with a large volume of last-minute changes. It therefore focuses on adjusting the results and responding to all the real demands of the customer.

What roles does the Scrum methodology use?
These Scrum teams consist of a Product Owner (I would be a mini product CEO), a Scrum Master (facilitates and helps with the implementation of Scrum) and a development team or developers. Together these three roles form a Scrum team. Teams typically consist of 3 to 9 developers plus the Owner product and the Scrum Master. Each of these roles has different responsibilities and must be accountable in different ways, both among them and for the organization in which they work. Today, Scrum’s guide to scrum.org has changed and eliminated the concept of ROL with that of ACCOUNTABILITIES, or responsibilities.
It is usually a cross-functional equipment, capable of generating a completed increase in each sprint (fixed period in which work must be done to achieve a goal), without other external dependencies.
What is a product Owner?
A product Owner is like the keeper of the projects, the indispensable figure in the development process. He is the one who possesses the vision and needs (backlog) of the product or project. You need to know the precise requirements and priorities of each project and transfer them to the Scrum Master and the development team. It focuses, analyzes, communicates clearly and turns every idea into a value proposition based on decisions, conflict and doubt resolutions, fulfillments of interests and changes generated by the Development Team. It is also called a Value Maximizer, as one of its main responsibilities is to achieve maximum value in each iteration. To do this it is important to know the customers and end users, what are the needs of the market and also the technical problems of the product to organize and prioritize the tasks and thus obtain the maximum value.
What are its main functions?
- Provide suggestions and requests required by end customers.
- Mark how Sprints are done for each project clearly by remembering it with the development team.
- Optimize product value and manage a value flow through Product Blacklog.
- Partner between Stakeholders and project sponsors.
What is a Scrum Master?
A Scrum Master is a leader and facilitator of a Scrum Team or Scrum team. The Scrum Master may or may not be a developer or just a profile that ensures that Scrum’s methodologies, tools, and events are conducted correctly. You don’t have to ensure project progress or team efficiency, but help or facilitate to unlock issues that are blocking the development team, and ensure that planning for daily meetings and review of work done takes place within the marked times.
What are its main functions?
- Facilitate and manage the Scrum process.
- Help the team and build their skills through mentoring, coaching and convening regular meetings.
- Eliminate barriers that affect project delivery.
- Be a good leader.
What is the development team?
The development team is composed of a multidisciplinary team with different capabilities and knowledge to solve projects optimally in a given period. In short, it is the team in charge of the development and execution of the project until reaching the final product. To do this, they show the progress of this with tests results and estimates.
Team members have to be self-employed and have the capacity for self-management and self-organization.
What are its main functions?
- Develop the product or service proposed by each project.
- Be held accountable for your internal management when asked.
- Create a finished increment from the selected Product Blacklog items.
